Small update!

So... THE BROADSUITS ARE ON THEIR WAY! Hooray! There isn't much to update past I primed up the stealth suits and decided upon a color scheme for them. I will be doing a stealth effect into the snow but... I decided against a clear resin cast. Maybe when I get a bit better and have more disposable income :P I also created my first army list for 750 points :) I'll post that online too when I finish it up. For now here's a pic of the paint ready stealth team and the colors I'll be using!

And so it has been said...

The Fire Warrior Team is officially done! Took some pics outside of what I had last night, then finally finished the last drone earlier tonight and have a final pic of that :) I also cleaned and glued some of the stealth suit together... I'm thinking of ordering some blu-stuff and making a mold of it and then casting a few models in clear resin and trying my hand at making some cool stealth effects! Until then no more talking... here's some minis ;)

And finally..... The whole squad

Until next time! I'll figure out whether I'm gonna make some clear stealth suits by then :)

It feels like cheating

So the micropen came in today! Just like the post title says... it felt a bit like cheating. When it worked... It really worked! The detail lines came out beautiful and a few touchups really made it seem like the molds were never messed up in the first place. In person does a bit more justice but here's a picture of the fire team anyway! (minus one gun drone because I haven't gotten around to finishing it just yet)
Hopefully its more noticeable especially with the legs, but the black lining really makes the entire scheme pop! Which just reminded me I never even mentioned my scheme or colors at all! I was aiming for a Sa'Cea theme and got pretty close besides how light it ended up being, though I actually enjoy it now. I primed in some Krylon gray, then base coated Pure Black (all paint I used was reaper besides the occasional GW wash), the main armor is a 50/50 mix of twilight blue and snow shadow (full twilight blue may have given me a more traditional Sa'Cea look, maybe next time around), a light grey was used to accent parts of the armor, clear orange was to help signify the sept look and clear red for the eyes and other small parts. For the guns the small bolt part I used an ancient brown. That's the basic of it! Some micropen at the end to really get the detail lines to shine and they were finished! For my first painting experience in close to 6-7 years I have to say I'm happy with how they came out.

So now that they're done I can focus on other models I picked up. I have 2 older broadside models coming in from the UK soon I have to strip and repaint. They are Sa'Cea colors but....
As much as it would save SO much time, the blue is just a bit too dark to match my current color scheme... It's that or I'll end up just repainting parts of it and the guns especially (since they are all black) in my Sa'Cea blue mix and have a nice dark/light contrast and save a bit of time xD I would've bought fresh broadsides and painted/assembled them from scratch, but they are VERY rare to find and for the deal I got these two I couldn't pass it up.

In the meantime though I'll be working on my stealthsuits next, then the crises suit last, maybe even after the broadsides. I did a mock build of the first sealthsuit to work on, I'm pretty stoked to start it!
Honestly this looks like it will be a crazy amount of fun to paint. I found a great color scheme online I want to try for them. Mostly black with some of twilight blue for accents, but the kicker? GW Ice Blue to line the details! I think that would be perfect and make the model stand out on a table. If it comes out real well I may try to paint ends of the model to "phase in/out" into the basing environment. Oh! That reminds me I decided upon an arctic theme for my miniatures bases, a bit of sand washed, some light grass flock then a good amount of snow flock.

Until next time! One of my friends also decided to join in the painting fun and is looking into Eldar at the moment, hopefully he goes through with it!

Squad assemble!

So! I was lazy and didn't really track my progress the past week :P I have been working on the Fire Warrior squad though! After many hours on random nights (would've been done earlier but life happens), I have finally completed the squad! I just have to do a bit of blacklining between armor plates with some micropen, but besides that I think they came out pretty good!

I'll finish off the other drone soon and then take some nice pics away from the painting table of the whole finished squad! Excited to see how it ends up looking! I also ordered 2 broadsides (old model type) that will probably come in later the month with metal parts. Next I'll be working on the stealth suits though, then my crises suit. Until next time!

Back to the painting board!

Well you can thank my friend for getting me back into warhammer 40k. Not even sure if he has touched his minis since we first bought them a few weeks ago... Oh well, mine are getting their worth! I have finished painting 4 Tau Fire Warriors so far and one of the gun drones it comes with:

The first took me about 4 hours, then 5... by the fourth I finally got down to a decent time at 2 hours. They came out pretty good if I say so myself! I want to call them 'tabletop quality', but I'll leave that up to you guys :P.

After them I decided to make a little assembly line since besides the legs and arms, the rest of every tau is basically the same. So I went through the process of getting the last 8 bodies, backpacks, heads and grenades done :) :

So I hope to complete the rest of the squad this week, I have to strip some older minis first since the legs that came with this set are just horrible quality -.- flat leg armor, no details, just horrible. So once I strip that paint and give a light prime I'll get those legs done! In the meantime I'll probably start the arms tomorrow and begin to glue some of the parts together. My only question remaining is how I want to base these things... They are a sa'cea sept color scheme and I'd like to imagine them as a bit more mountainous. Maybe some gravel and ruins? I'll have to see.

Oh! and here's my little mobile painting station:

Until next time hope you enjoy the minis! Here's a final upclose shot of my favorite so far, "Blue Eyes" :)
